Breeding

Breeding is the technology of purposely changing the freesia’s genetic traits with the goal of developing a better freesia. By cross-breeding it with botanical and existing Freesia varieties we try to combine the best traits to create an improved variety.

We mainly try to create a healthy, productive, high-quality variety. The breeding properties of all of our new varieties are tested at our company year-round, so that we can provide you with the correct information. As a result, many of our varieties rank in the top 10 of most frequently grown freesias.

Every year will be awarded the Jan Goemans Trophy at the Keukenhof in Lisse. In 2024 P. Hofland B.V. has won the Goemans Tropy for 7th time with the variety Merci.

P. Hofland B.V. won the Goemans Trophy with the varieties Saffier, Ambiance, Maya, Vera, Rosario and Avenue.
